Mnemonic Kid

Mnemonic Kid was a rejected Legionnaire applicant, who could induce memory loss. Angry that she had been rejected, she plotted her revenge by wiping parts of the Legionnaire's memories. Another Legion reject, Fortress Lad, came to the rescue by transforming into a giant fortress in order to protect the Legionnaires. Mnemonic Kid continued to use her powers against Fortress Lad, who resisted at the cost of losing all of his memories. As a last resort, Mnemonic Kid threw a grenade at Fortress Lad (and the Legionnaires inside him), but she caught the impact of the explosion herself and died.
The BG Sci Fi BG 1 was made by Creative Stock, I've changed it a little from the original.
To the Legion fans I said this...despite how busy I am with my full time job on The Simpsons, my side art projects and life in general, I always think about completing my mission of drawing all legionnaires. I got the Legion fans in my mind. I miss drawing legionnaires all the time for fun.
I'll do my best to post a character here and there.
Cheers

Playa Dust

My latest painting. Here's where I got so far digitally, I'll be painting what 's left on the printed canvas live at Lure, located at 1439 Ivar Av. Los Angeles CA on Saturday October 25th. The event it's called Deca-Dance Pre-Halloween.
I'm thinking about adding a real bindi to the painting, and with acrylic maybe a little more detail on the body painting, the hair and the rusted BG with sponge.
The idea of this painting it's that the model it's covering her face with a feather from some Playa dust flowing bye at Burning Man. The background could be a rusted mutant vehicle parked there.
I'm sure I'll texturize it once I'm completely done with it.
Painting 6 of 11 almost done.

I've started this piece on a canvas 38x46 almost 10 years ago. Left it on pause for a while. I added more detail with acrylic recently, toke a photo of the actual painting, added even more details digitally, printed it again on a canvas when done and finally added some values with acrylic on that new canvas. First time I ever mix a creative process like that. I'm pretty happy with the outcome so far. Sorry for the crappy photo I wish there was a better way to capture that canvas.
I'm still going to add more detail to the arms and veil in the next two days and finish it once and for all, waaay over due...
As usual it was a great pleasure painting live at Grateful Fridays, love and gratitude to that awesome community.
May the force be with you...always

Ying and Yang

It seems after both my parents passing this year, all I have been doing it's balancing and harmonizing things in life. It'll take some time to adjust and slowly flow into my new life. Perhaps that's why I have been  seeing the Ying and Yang symbol in my mind and felt compelled to create something like this. I've started digitally then printed on canvas and finally added details with acrylic. This is the digital version only. I don't have any pics of my finished canvas work yet.
Yin and Yang is one of the most fundamental concepts in Traditional Chinese Medicine, as it is the foundation of diagnosis and treatment. The earliest reference to Yin and Yang is in the I Ching (Book of Changes) in approximately in 700 BC. In this work, all phenomena are said to be reduced to Yin-Yang.

After taking a two year break from painting digitally and on canvas, I've decided to slowly get back into it. It seems overcoming the passing of both my parents was a time consuming process that still goes on. My dad's death second anniversary was a few days ago. During this break period from creating art I had to travel to Argentina many times, that's where my whole family lived, I had to multitask and accomplish many things. In January this year I was told I needed a heart surgery by my physician for my mitral valve prolapse case. I'm still doing echocardiograms and getting other opinions about it. I was also betrayed by my attorney in Argentina who I've trusted after 20 years. She ended up committing fraud and extortion, stealing a whole bunch of money from a family property I've sold last year. I'm still dealing with that too, most definitively I will seek justice in a corrupted bureaucratic third world society. After my mom's passing I've also inherited the responsibility of taking care of her sister in Argentina (my aunt), who had a brain aneurysm, it's been paralyzed and lost her speech since late 2009. She didn't have any children and it's my only family member left alive. Very expensive monthly medical bills out of my pocket. I've also been facing some challenging and difficult times in my recent relationship, like I didn't have enough going on, to the point that I'm single again. On a positive note I've spent at least 11 months drawing and painting my own version of DC comics The  Legion of Super Heroes characters for fun, it seemed to have a good feedback from the Legion fans. Scroll down and click on "older posts" at the bottom of this page to see them all. I got involved on a time consuming unpaid freelance job, a good reminder why I've stopped doing unpaid work a long time ago. I've quit that job recently, I'll share that art at one point.
Having said all of that I hope you'll understand why I had to take a break, I was blocked and overwhelmed on my creative flow by multiple and difficult life situations.

This particular painting was inspired by an experience I had when connecting my third eye to a big tree. With my physical eyes closed and my third eye open I saw the shapes and image of the painting above flying in front of me. I added the leaf hair details, the actual visual experience I had was semi blurry.
I'll be painting this image live on canvas at the ABunDance event on May 31st in Hollywood.
https://www.facebook.com/events/499514100160996/
If you are reading this, you are invited.
I will slowly do my best to start producing more Legion of Super Heroes characters and paintings as well, please be patience with my creative speed, I'm still multitasking difficult life situations. Nevertheless my art will be posted here sooner or later, life and art will go on...always...
Cheers

After an amazing day and a blissful Hindu Hybrid wedding I went to Grateful Fridays and finish my painting :)
It was awesome to actually paint and dance under the rain, ha...it sounds like a cheese 80's song title...paint and dance under the rain...
I'm a so grateful my computer, projector and Cintiq are dry now and they still work fine. And also very grateful for the chance to share my work with you all. I love everyone at Grateful Fridays.
It feels like 11/11/11 went bye too fast. I've been waiting for that magical date for too long, had too much planned and went bye too quick.
I hope whatever meaning that date has for you somewhat lived up to your expectations.
Yes, you are the future and the future it's now...
Cheers for a better humanity living in harmony with nature and the cosmos!!!

Here is a very rough concept for my next live painting. I'm planing to use a lot of green on this one.
I'm also planning to do a series of 11 paintings, print them on canvas and add highlights and shades with acrylic to them.
Of course when-ever the opening for the gallery happens you'll be cordially invited.

My tonight's first live painting with a Cintiq at Grateful Fridays @ The Vanguard(en)...
I started around 9 pm and was finished by 1:55 am. Sure, I could keep adding highlights and shadows until Christmas, but I wanted to post my work as it was that night. I'm very grateful for the opportunity to paint live in such a great place full of friends and beautiful Hollywood burner people. Much love to everyone who made that night possible! God bless
Btw click on "Older posts" at the bottom of this page to check out some more of my artwork.
Peace!

Temple Guardian

Last but not least, Temple Guardian (I love that name). Actually this was my first piece for that Super Hero project. I'm even considering making this piece one of my possible future paintings for an art gallery.
Based on Aradia Sunseri, she is also a good friend and she is a Temple Fusion Belly Dance artist, Ritual Movement instructor and costume designer. I truly enjoyed working with her on this character. We were totally in the same page, Aradia started telling me this amazing idea she had without knowing I was already drawing it on my own while seating next to her. She has over 15 years of experience in the movement arts and performance in theater, on film and stage. Expressing the anatomy of the soul through ritual dance and original hand made costumes, her visual and energetic presence embodies artistic timeless exploration of sacred dance as devotion.
Check out her site   http://aradiasunseri.com

Her character powers are channeling wisdom keepers, she is a ceremonial Shaman of sacred medicine. Temple Guardian protects all places of worship to the body and energy of each of us.
I had a magical time co-creating this character, thanks for that timeless memory Aradia.
May your ventures in life become successful and blossom beyond imagination.

Hannah Mermaid

From the same Super Hero project that never was...yet, here is Hannah Mermaid. Not only I'm proud to call her a friend, Hannah is a professional underwater mermaid, creating her own functional mermaid tails. She is also a dedicated Ocean activist, she travels the planet performing for charity projects to commercial ventures to bring awareness to the ocean and it's animal life. She has done many movies and shoots swimming in the open ocean with sharks, dolphins, whales, manta rays and more. Check out her website if you wish to hire her talent. http://www.hannahfraser.com/mermaid/
Her powers are all mermaid ancient wisdom and magic. She protects the oceans and sea life on the planet.
I'm so proud of you Hannah, it was great working on your character with you, love ya!

Dove

Here is the one of three pieces from a freelance project that was truly free. Probably a good reminder why I've stopped doing freebies. The project never got an official name, the premises where Captain Planet meets Power Rangers but with a contemporary burner/conscious edge. Originally based on Shawn Barry's idea (https://soundcloud.com/shawn-barry-music)
We had a meeting at a Talent Agency (very formal) with a few friends. It had and still has potential for either a TV show or a live performing show. What it got me exited was the idea of having a TV show where we switch from live action to animation within the same universe back and forth per episode. Of course that would be a very hight budget since animation it's not cheap, and of course whoever would produce this potential show would prefer know experience and stablished actors instead of experienced performers/models/artists. Based on everyone's experience involved on this project it would make more sense to do a live show like Marvel Live   http://www.marveluniverselive.com
The project was put on hold for now. I'm sure whatever free art came out of my excitement could still be used for presentation and pitching purposes in the future. It was a good experience to work with friends outside The Simpsons universe.
For the record I'm not taken orders, doing any commission work or adding any more drawings to my list of things to do. Sorry folks, I'm a busy man, nothing personal.
This character, Dove, was based on Alicia Marie. She is an incredible aerialist who performed with Motley Crue and the Lucent Dossier Experience just to name a few. She helped me co-create the background for this character. Her powers: Flight, can change her size to a faerie and fast speed. She protects the air and skies.
I truly hope this brilliant project gets picked up someday.

Sizzle

Teela Spuunvll hails from her native home world of Abaddonus. She has the ability to absorb energy and change it from one form to another, for example sound to light and gamma rays to electricity.
She was rejected from the Legion of Super Heroes because her powers only work if she can have energy available for her to become dangerous. Otherwise, she is vulnerable to somebody like Turtle, who can just punch her. The Legion had an idea for Sizzle, Turtle and Night Girl to become the charter members of the new auxiliar organization called the Legion Reserves. The BG it's called Eye of the Storm by Gabriel Bjork Stiernstrom.
Yup, I'm still drawing Legion characters. You should know by now what The Legion of Super Heroes is from looking at my Blog. Otherwise that would mean you never read any of the posts or you just don't care...

Guardians of the Galaxy

Here is my little drawing of the Guardians of the Galaxy. I thought the movie was great. I really liked it, it had heart, was well written, it was funny and the visual fx were amazeballs. Most people I know would agree. I feel bad for the sourpuss haters minority, haters gonna hate kinda thing.
Well done Marvel, among Avengers and Captain America, the Winter Soldier it's Guardians for me. I kinda had that feeling I got when I was 10 years old and saw Star Wars for the first time ever.
I loved working with Rocket and Gamora the most.
Enjoy...
Cheers

Guardians of the Galaxy rough pencil

And for my 282 post...It's been a while since I post a rough pencil to share my creative process.
I remember I loved the comic book when I was a kid. Well just about anything that was galactic I was into it, actually I still am LOL.
This piece was all done digitally with my Cintiq. I still have to clean it up and color it, I found a BG from a wallpaper website that fits perfectly. Can't wait to finish it but it may take a while, specially since my computer fell down the stairs and it'll be at the repair shop for a while.
The original 31st century team from an alternative time-line of the Marvel Universe called the Guardians of the Galaxy are a superhero team that appear in comic books published by Marvel Comics. The Guardians first appear in Marvel Super-Heroes #18 (Jan. 1969).
The modern version of the team was formed in the aftermath of Annihilation: Conquest in 2008.
The film about to come out it's based on the 2008 comic book.
Hope you like it. Happy Friday!

Gear

Gear is from a race composed of organic machinery beneath humanoid shells, he can transform parts of his body into tools and interface with computers. The Blackstar Juvenile Correctional Facility captured him for use in maintaining their systems. For quite some time, he pretended to be servile, while programming some of his machinery to disable the systems keeping the inmates contained and powerless upon his deactivation. On the arrival of the Legionnaire Sensor on the station, he was convinced by her to move prematurely, and was severely damaged in the process, activating his failsafes. However, Brainiac 5 successfully repaired him, and Gear remained on the Legion Outpost space station until most of the Legion was lost in a rift and the team was forcefully disbanded as a resultR.J. Brande then made contact with many of the remaining Legionnaires, including Gear, and put together a plan to construct a "Legion World" - an artificial planetoid to house a revived and expanded team, which Gear and Invisible Kid designed and helped to construct.

The BG Sci Fi Lab Corridor was made by
Hawk17015,
visit his Deviant Art page at:

I made a few changes to match Gear.
It's been a while since I've done any
Legion of Super Heroes characters.
But I still have a lot of personal projects
I would like to pay some attention to,
like my paintings for an art gallery,
a children's book, storyboard my own
Sci Fi epic film,
work on my own website and so forth.
I'll do my best to at least do one
Legionnaire per week
but I can't promise you anything.
I hope you like this one and my
new settle changes.

Captain America. The Springfield Soldier

I saw Captain America The Winter Soldier last night. I thought it was a great film all around. A good spy/war/action/super hero movie, not just a great super hero flick but a great movie period.
As a tribute to this awesome film and character I thought I should post something fighting and exposing  injustice in this corporate corrupted, politically correct and dysfunctional system. As I mentioned in an earlier post, Married to the Blob it's the 540th Simpsons episode, it was aired January 12th 2014. I worked on it and I couldn't be more disappointed with the color and some other super hero related business on this show.
I was a character designer and had no control whatsoever over a lot of issues in this episode.
Some times changing what you are joking about to the point it becomes something else and parody has disappeared, it's one of the many examples to show how the corporate world gets on the way of good art and film making not being made by people that cares. I've noticed when it comes to super heroes 80% of the time things are changed and colored so differently that it's almost an insult to the comic book community. Therefore I'm posting how this Captain America Jack Kirby style should have been colored. The upper version it's how it should have been, the bottom version it's what aired...Seriously who colors Captain America pink and orange? Really?...Perhaps earlier in the same shot an Everyman comic cover it's featured spoofing Captain America, and perhaps someone thought it would be conflicting with the real Captain America comic cover. Well simply don't use that Everyman cover, the Captain America one is the joke and the one being featured so pick another un-important background comic for the shot.
Please forgive me Jack Kirby wherever you are in comic book artist Gods heaven, it wasn't my fault.
May Truth, Justice and the American Way prevail!

Legion of Substitute Heroes

Here is the updated Legion of Substitute Heroes group shot!
A group of 30th-century heroes who were denied membership into the Legion of Super-Heroes, due to their powers being deemed limited or inadequate. So they banded together to prove the Legion wrong.
To my knowledge this is a complete group shot of the substitutes. I apologize "if" I left some character out due to my unawareness.
For an all Legionnaires group shot you may have to wait for a while, but I'll get there eventually. You are probably asking yourself why are they wearing all legion rings? I know it's a cheat but it's looks more dynamic if some members could fly on the shot. The BG is called "Parking Structure" and was painted by Kurt Richards. I've only changed it a bit.
I'm planning to contact DC comics to see if they are interested in making a poster of this.
Feel free to comment on any of my posts, hope you all dig it.
Cheers

Urk

Urk is a former member of the Legion of Substitute Heroes and a current member of the Legion Academy. Very little is known about Urk even though he has been appearing in various Legion of Superheroes comics for almost thirty years, except this mischievous alien loves to chew on wires. The only readable word Urk has ever said is "Urk." He has also spoken an unreadable alien language, though. The BG, Sci-Fi Interior by Mark Yang was the perfect choice for a wire chewing alien. Special thanks to CA for the info on Urk, much appreciated. I believe now that I've done most of Substitute Heroes an upgraded group shot it's in order... I'm sure by now someone noticed I've been drawing nothing by ugly and obscure characters. Well, that's what happens when you get the cool and sexy ones done first. I'm still having a blast finding new challenging ways to make ugly characters look cool the best that I can. Staying "somewhat" faithful to the original comic book design it's a must for my personal taste. No worries I'll keep em' coming until I'm done with ALL of them.
Long live the Legion.

Double Header

Bam! Double whammy, double post!
Frenk and Dyvud Retzun were from Janus, a world where a species starts as conjoined twins and eventually split into two identical beings.
Double-Header has the power of having two heads with two distinct personalities. He was rejected after his tryout for the Legion of Super-Heroes and instead joined the Legion of Substitute Heroes.
He was killed in Earth-Man's assault on the Subs, but this was never shown on-panel.
The BG, Landfall Terminal by Michael Pedro. I was influenced by Stuart Immonen's art on Double Header's expressions.

Fortress Lad

Fortress Lad is an alien from the planet Fwang.  Because that planet is constantly besieged by meteor storms, all Fwangian boys, at puberty, gain the ability to transform themselves into metallic fortresses for the protection of others.
He once saved the founding members of the Legion of Superheroes by transforming himself into what
would become their headquarters.
Years later this clubhouse became the Legion of Substitute Heroes headquarters.
The BG it's from Stephan Martiniere, here is his website  http://www.martiniere.com/

Insect Queen

And to continue with the red haired Metropolitans friends of Superman, Lana Lang is the Insect Queen.
Insect Queen is a name used by several characters in the DC Universe. Originally it was used by Lana Lang, a friend to Superboy and honorary member of the Legion of Super-Heroes. Her powers come from a ring that gives her the physical abilities of various insects and arachnids. In the modern era an extra-terrestrial super-villain has used the name Insect QueenLonna Leing of Xanthu in the 30th Century is a member of the Uncanny Amazers, existing in Reboot Legion continuity. Insect Queen was created by Otto Binder and George Papp, first appearing in Superboy #124 in 1965.
I got the BG from www.socwall.com as a wallpaper. If I knew the name of the artist it would be here...
I added some signs to resemble Metropolis. For this piece I was inspired by my animation colleague's art Lauren Montgomery. Check out her art Blog at http://laurenmontgomery.blogspot.com/

Elastic Lad

Yup, Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen. Elastic Lad is a super-hero alter-ego used by cub reporter Jimmy Olsen. In this identity, he has the ability to stretch his body parts to incredible lengths. The transformation is caused by Elasti-Formula. He is an honorary member of the Legion of Super-Heroes. The Elastic Lad alias was created by Otto Binder and Curt Swan, first appearing in Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen #31 in 1958.
I got the BG from wall.alphacoders.com a Sci Fi wall paper site. Again, I wish I knew the name of the BG artist for the credit.
Since I've just did a Jimmy Olsen related post I thought it would be perfect to follow up with Elastic Lad. Lana Lang's next...

Shoulda woulda coulda, but didn't.

Married to the Blob is the five hundred and fortieth episode of The Simpsons and tenth episode of the twenty-fifth season. The episode was aired on January 12, 2014. Comic Book Guy realizes his comics are nothing if he can’t share them with anyone. Then he meets Kumiko, a Japanese woman writing an autobiographical manga, and he seeks out Homer’s advice on how to date her, ending happily for everyone. I was asked by Fox thru The Simpsons to design a comic book cover featuring Jimmy Olsen vs. Matter Eater Lad for this episode. Of course since I'm on a mission with the Legionnaires it was my pleasure.
Although it appears a lot of the comic book characters' color was intentionally wrong. It seems nowadays the Legal department is calling the final shots with the purpose of avoiding legal entanglements. In a way I understand but at the same time if you are gonna change what you are joking about to the point that becomes something else, it kind of defeats the purpose of parody after 20 successful years and then some. The color department, which I have no control over as a designer, was probably asked to stay away from the original colors to avoid a lawsuit. If I had the proper authority I would have colored it like the upper image, with the correct characters' color. After all it's parody and might as well do it right. Comic book fans are the first to notice things like that and I'm sure they would've appreciated it more if it wasn't so deviated from the original. In my personal opinion this is holding back the show from what it could possibly be.
The bottom image is a screen grab of what was aired.
If only art was up to the artists in a world run by money and corporations...

Antenna Lad

Khfeurb Chee Bez, born on the planet Grxyor, was "blessed" from birth with his unnaturally shaped ears. Antenna Lad was one of the many applicants who were on hand to try to fill the empty slot in the Legion left by the "death" of founding Legionnaire Lightning Lad. He was rejected because his power, the ability to pick up radio waves transmitted from anywhere on the plant, from the present or past was imperfect, often resulting in deafening feedback squeals. This same ability, however, brought him to the attention of the researchers at the Metropolis Time Institute, who used his power to collect ancient recordings to add to their body of historical knowledge. Later Khfeurb applied to the Legion of Substitute Heroes, and was accepted as an auxiliary member (the Subs could find little use for his abilities either, yet did not want to reject any applicant). Antenna Lad was only briefly seen in cameos after that, including an appearance at the wedding of Bouncing Boy and Duo Damsel. During the "Five Years Later" storyarc, Khfeurb is shown multiple times as a newscaster with the United Planets Broadcasting Service.
I wish I knew the name of the artist for this beautiful BG for the deserved credit. I got it from www.fantasy-writers.org
After spending so much time with Porcupine Pete I decided to go for a more simple design here. Still got so many Legionnaires to draw...

Neon

Celeste McCauley of the 30th century is the niece of one of the galaxy's richest industrialists. She is the living embodiment of the last remnants of Green Lantern energy. She was brought back from the brink of death when that collective energy invaded her body and healed its inoperable injuries. She is also known by other aliases as Neon, Darkstar or Celeste Rockfish. One of her outfits looked like a Star Trek the Next Generation's uniform to me so I went for the emerald energy form before Darkstar on Zero Hour.  Celeste has not appeared in any other Legion timelines, but did make a brief appearance in the Legion of Three Worlds story arc, helping the Legionnaires against the Time Trapper
Speaking of which, the Time Trapper along Karate Kid and Dawnstar appear on a new JLA Adventures: Trapped in Time. It's a Target exclusive and it wasn't very much advertised unlike Justice League War. Of course I own it and watched it yesterday. Despite on the Karate Kid's design (not so much), the black wings? on Dawnstar  and the ginormous jaw on Sups,  I liked it, it was allright! Besides, some of my friends worked on it so good job guys!
The BG is the Nebula RCW 49 located 13,700 light years away. It is a dusty stellar nursery that contains more than 2,200 stars and is about 350 light years across. I went over it and made it green.

Porcupine Pete

Born with rough patches that eventually grew into long quills, Peter Dursin never let his appearance get him down. Loved by his caring parents and accepted warmly by his classmates, Pete tried out for the Legion with a wide smile and an ability to project his quills from his body. However, his aim was less than ideal and he was rejected. The Legion of Substitute-Heroes, however, welcomed the young man warmly into their ranks.
The BG was made by the talented Young Joons, the pose was based on a stock photo at http://daestock.deviantart.com/  they have a great array of reference poses there. It toke me a little longer than usual on this one, I was debating between simplification or detail. Clearly I went for detail since this won't be used for any animation shows...that I know of. The quills where a bit time consuming. I was trying to add elements from a real porcupine. Eventually I'll add it to the group shot I've posted previously. More legionnaires coming soon, stay tuned.

Fire Lad

Staq Malvern came to Earth in the latter part of the 30th Century from his native planet Shwar, to apply for membership in the Legion of Super Heroes. His power to breathe fire, acquired after inhaling the fumes of a weird meteor was considered too dangerous and he was rejected. Calling himself Fire Lad, he became one of the 5 Legion rejects to form the Legion of Substitute Heroes. I got the BG from www.e-cigarette-forum.com and I've painted over it just a bit.
Maybe this design is an amalgam of the original with some elements of the latest one. I gave him a ring so he can fly, besides it would look great on my next Legion of Substitute Heroes group shot, oops spoiler alert!

Chlorophyll Kid

Ral Benem came to Earth in the latter half of the 30th Century from his native world of Mardru to apply for membership in the Legion of Super Heroes. His power to stimulate plant growth, acquired when he accidentally fell into a tank of hydroponic serum as a child, was pronounced inadequate and he was rejected. He also claims that he has the ability to communicate with plants, which he cannot. He is a founding member of the Legion of Substitute-Heroes. For the background I went over a photograph named Spirit Garden by Marc Adamus. Notice I've changed the regular tree on his chest for the Celtic Tree of Life. I thought it would be more meaningful and look much nicer than what I've seen. Now, for an animated show it would have to be simplified unless it's CG, no problem with details there.  For reference and inspiration on this character I looked at the original version and many artists like Ryan Ottley, Humberto Ramos and Dusty Able.

Laurel Kent

Laurel Kent was created in 1976 by writer Jim Shooter and artist Mike Grell for a Legion story called "Future Shock for Superboy." She was the first direct descendant of Superman to appear in DC's 30th century universe. Laurel Kent of Earth was a young woman who happened to be the 30th century direct descendant of Superman. She first introduced herself to a teenage Superboy, then a prominent member of the Legion of Super-Heroes, as 'Elna' (an anagram of "Lane," the surname of Superman's wife Lois Lane). Superboy was initially quite attracted to her, until he discovered to his embarrassment that they were related.  The only super-power Laurel had inherited from her Kryptonian 20th-century ancestor was that of invulnerability, which she demonstrated by absorbing a full-strength energy blast from the Legionnaire Wildfire without suffering even the slightest injury. Because of her invulnerability, she had little need for clothing and favored skimpy outfits (essentially black bikinis, sometimes accessorized with a Superman-like red cape) that reflected this fact. Her only vulnerability was to Kryptonite, due to her Kryptonian heritage. Laurel was given extensive combat training by the Legion Academy, where she learned to take full advantage of her invulnerability as a fighter. Because her body was indestructible, Laurel could hit much harder than a normal human despite lacking her ancestor's super-strength. She could also operate in extreme combat conditions and dangerous environments that few others could enter.
The BG Cloud City 2 is by Valdek Laur. I've only painted a little over it and made it less realistic.

Chemical Kid

Chemical Kid is presently starring in the ongoing Legion of Superheroes series since the rebooted DC universe in the new 52Hardu Jamik's father, a wealthy businessman on his homeworld of Phlon, synthesized the abilities of the deceased Legionnaire known as Chemical King. Mr Jamik used his own son as a guinea pig with successful result in order to allow his son to play super-hero and become famous. Chemical Kid enrolled at the Legion Academy with the goal to become a famous Legionnaire. He quickly garnered a reputation amongst the staff for being spoiled and a troublemaker for constantly disobeying orders to go out and spend his father's money. Like previous Legionnaire Chemical King, Chemical Kid has the unique ability among his people to accelerate, slow down, or manipulate natural chemical reactions in both objects and living beings. When accelerating his own metabolism with his powers, Hadru is able to move with super-human speed and reflexes. This post is a lot more than just another legionnaire pretty picture. For the BG I thought it would be appropriate to use chemtrails. By touching this topic I don't mean to start a debate and will not tolerate to be insulted or ridiculed, so to those possible folks I say this: if you post anything in a negative connotation in regards to this serious issue your post will be deleted. There is still controversy about chemtrails believe it or not. Those who believe chemtrails are part of a global geoengineering program are immediately and wrongly called conspiracy theorists. There's still people that don't have a clue what a chemtrail is and there are those who will argue chemtrails are the same as contrails. Some good hearted folks may ask the classic why would the government do that or lie to us? But the reality is chemtrails are very real and you can see them in the sky with your own eyes. My "personal" opinion based on my own research is, chemtrails are a co-military operation with the purpose of modifying weather and other hidden agendas. From many different independent sources chemtrails are composed by barium, nano aluminum-coated fiberglass, radioactive thorium, cadmium, chromium, nickel, desiccated blood, mold spores, yellow fungal mycotoxins, ethylene dibromide, and polymer fibers. Now for those who believe this serious issue is a hoax, either they have been greatly blinded and conditioned  with disinformation or they have been planted strategically to spread disinformation with the goal of keeping people confused and to look the other way.

Flederweb

A Khundish boy born on the planet Aetia, the unnamed Flederweb was one of many experimental test subjects for the Khund army. He was given enhancements that changed his physiology, giving him bat-like wings and the ability to cling to walls. Dubbed Flederweb, he was forced into service in the Khund army against his will. To ensure the bitter Khund boy wouldn't rebel, he was fitted with a mind-controlling device that telepathically forced him to obey his orders by the military. He went on to become a fine bounty hunter for them with his acrobatic and aerial skills. Flederweb was chosen as one of the four Khund warriors to join the Legion of Super-Heroes in an assault to defeat the sorcerer Mordru and his undead minions. I based this pose after some Arthur Adams art, one of my many comic book heroes and source of inspiration. The BG it's from wall.alphacoders.com.
I've enjoyed working on this character, he looks so cool. It almost has that Guillermo del Toro quality to it.

Calamity King

Calamity King aka E. Davis Ester was born on Touston and eventually realized that he was the source of everyone's bad luck. He was a walking jinx and decided to try to put his powers to good use. During the Imperiex campaign, he applied for membership to the Legion of Superheroes as Calamity King. He was rejected because his powers created an equal amount of danger for his allies and enemies, alike. Powers: Bad Luck. Calamity King has the power to cause bad luck both physically or mentally to those around him. His bad luck effects both the animate and inanimate objects. It appears he has no control over this effect. The BG Sci Fi City 02 was made by Nkabuto, found it at his Deviant Art page. I went over it since it was a little more rough than what I usually use for backgrounds, nevertheless I still like the rough state and somehow feels right for Calamity King.
Try not to look at this image for too long just in case, it may bring you bad luck, who knows...
