Memorial Day

Sgt Rock and other soldiers I did for a Justice League episode. Here's my little tribute to Memorial Day.

Saturn Dance

Here is my painting number 10, Saturn Dance. The body was based on many photo references, same on the mechanical parts. They were based on different images I've found on Pinterest. I've changed them a lot to match my painting. The face was inspired by my friend Aradia, but clearly was made more mechanical to match the robotic look. She is a mystical belly dancer priestess after all, it seemed the perfect inspiration for this painting. The BG, like most my latest backgrounds it's a bit blurry to create depth. This one it's an example of what I was talking about in my previous posts about not making my paintings so photo realistic to the point some folks won't believe me that I've painted it form scratch myself. This was also printed on a canvas and texturized with some color. Like on the white bottom part, the actual canvas has a lot of texture, it creates a very different feel to it once you see it in front of you. I'm pretty happy with it, hope you like it too.
One more painting to go and gallery then.

Winds of Change

Another digital painting then printed on a canvas and then texturized with gel and some color.
Same as my previous post. It's not a photo or photo collage or a photo that I've painted over. Yes, this is painted from scratch. I did copied elements from different image reference but it is painted. It took me a loooong time to achieve this goal of photo realism.
Since you can manipulate images with photoshop very well, it gives me the tools to reach my goal of photo realism. Some parts I've spent more time trying to make it look more photographic than others. The woman's face was totally made up from different models, the body was based on a friend of mines photo that was gifted to me, I've changed it a lot to blend it better with the whole picture. The BG was very time consuming as well. I feel kind of bad by making it blurry to create that photo realism look but I think it works and gives it depth.
This was printed on a canvas and texturized as well. Another painting ready for my future gallery.

Gaelic Princess

Gealic Princess it's a piece I've been working on for a long time now. You can see the unfinished version on my earlier posts. I've left it unfinished a long time ago and recently got to it. Here is the final version.
It takes a very long time to make something very photo realistic. I think I've spend too long in Photoshop using the airbrush and smudge tools along with texturizing and blurring things, the photo realism it's too much. To the point some folks don't believe me that I've painted this and they think it's a photo collage or that I've painted over a photo. That kind of bothers me since I've spent a looong time trying to make it look photo realistic. Yes I copied elements from different photo reference images but I didn't paint over them or photo-collaged it. A great artist friend of mine said, well...if you want to make it photo realistic and you achieve your goal don't complaint about people not believing you it's not a photo.
He has a point.
I think now that I have reached my goal in photo realism I might try a different style in my next paintings. A style where is less photo realistic and folks can easily see it's painted and not so photo looking so they won't be confused.
This digital painting it's being printed on a canvas gicle style, after that I'll paint over with acrylic and then texturize it.
I have only one painting left to do and then I'll have to look for a gallery that wants to showcase my art.
Until then have a good one folks, hope you like my original art.

Le Sirene

Pencil by Cassegrain clean up and color moi.
I saw this amazing rough sketch by Didier Cassegrain and I've decided to finish it.
I truly wish I knew the artist who painted this BG. Please tell me if you know.
An artistic Mermaid team work piece popped out from my studio on this Saturday night.
Hope you folks like it and are having a great week-end!

Kono

Brita An'nan is a native of the planet Sklar, a matriarchical society where "piracy" is common. She is also known as Kono. Her mother, a "pirate" saved the life of the mother of the White Witch. In return she was granted her powers. She has the ability to transfer the mass of one object to another, making objects heavier or lighter, or even allowing her to phase through walls. She join the Legion and became Kono.
This is the only other "pirate" related Legion character I can think of. Since Pirates of the Caribbean opens today, here is my piraty tribute fan art.
The BG it's a wallpaper. I wish I knew the artist's name so I can give the proper credit for it.
I think her large feral pet Furball it's next...

Captain Frake

Alisia Frake of New Tortuga, growing up amidst the poverty and lawlessness of New Tortuga led Alisia into the most common profession of the asteroid world...piracy. Quickly gaining a reputation for her ruthlessness, she manned the pirate ship "Antares" with cutthroats and led a successful pirating career until she crossed the path of Ultra Boy, who was floating through space after being killed by Pulsar Stargrave. Captain Frake fell for Ultra Boy, but he turned against her when the Legionnaires arrived on New Tortuga to arrest the pirates. Captain Frake and her crew were killed when the blast from a weapon called the Star Crusher ricochetted of Ultra Boy.
Since Pirates of the Caribbean, Dead Men Tell No Tells opens today, this was the perfect post for the day. I took some liberties in redesigning the character slightly, for the most part I was faithful to the comics. Well, here is your Legion pirate booty...
And now matey, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum for me, arrr...

Son Goku Super Saiyan God Blue

My version of Goku in Super Saiyan God Blue. I've been keeping up with my Dragon Ball Super. Season five it's been great so far, can't wait until is translated in english and air in the states too.
I love drawing Dragon Ball Super. Let's start the week like a Super Saiyan facing life fearlessly with courage. Dragon Ball makes me happy, may strength and courage be with you through life. Have a good week folks!

Sensor Girl

Princess Projectra is a member of the royal family of the planet Orando and has the innate ability to cast powerful illusions, As Sensor Girl, she is a long time member of the Legion of Super Heroes.
Girls and their selfies, even in the future they take selfies. Specially a famous princess superhero.
The BG was based on a design by Irena Seirski, I've added the Legion tower on the back as her bedroom view. On a personal note, I got too much going on at once in my private life, I apologize to the fans if I don't post a Legion piece as often. But I'll do my best to draw a Legionnaire here and there.
Cheers

Sonar

Sonar was a prospective member of the Legion of Super Heroes, but was rejected. She had the ability to hear very well underwater. She was a bit overweight, so she did a 90 days transformational work out and ended up looking like this. Sorry, but I enjoy drawing beautiful fit women only, it's my thing. Long Live the Legion!

Policy Pam

Policy Pam is a superhero / insurance salesperson from the 31st Century. She has the power to sell any type of insurance policy to anyone and compulsively does with people she meets.
I think she trained with Polar Boy. Some characters powers from the Legion Universe are way beyond ridiculous, like this one.
The BG needed a little work, I got it from google images. I have no idea who made it, I believe you can purchase the 3D model and it's royalty free.
Long Live the Legion!

Dev-Em

Dev-Em, youth from the planet Krypton who was on his way to becoming a criminal but eventually reformed. He is also one of Krypton's only survivors of it's destruction. He is a member of the Interstellar Counter Intelligence Corps and ally to the Legion of Super Heroes.
The BG is a wall paper from an alien landscape wallpapers website, don't really know who's the autor.
This one took me some time. No matter what I did, I wasn't happy with it. I did many passes to get it to this point where I'm ok with it. I've tried some different shadowing that resembled the original costume design. I've also added new little touches here and there. I thought the original design was kind of plain and needed something extra.
Hope you like it.
Cheers

Virus

Virus was a prospective member of the Legion of Super Heroes, but she was rejected. She had poor control over her ability to cause others to be sick. Obviously her powers are causing others to be sick.
The BG is from Pixel Lab, was made by Remco. Nice website where they have free C4D 3D models.
Stay in good health, take your vitamins and mineral. Don't get any viruses, keep that inmune system high. Til' next time folks.

Ringtoss

Ringtoss is a student at the Legion Academy. He is an alien with the ability to project rings of energy.
I guess the Legion Academy was renamed the United Planets Military Academy at that time.
For those who doesn't know, this is part of the Legion of Super Heroes in the 30th Century at the DC Comics Universe.
The BG is from Tyler Mcintosh.
More Legionnaires coming up...

Plant Lad

Real name Noyt Echad, Plant Lad had the power to change into various plant forms. he was one of various super heroes who was captured by Nardo, the warden of a prison planet. Some Legion members were also captured at one point, and after many attempts to escape they succeeded. But prior to the jail break, Noyt's nerves cracked while working in the prison yard. When he changed into the form of a Venusian Octopus Vine, he attacked the guards and was shot to death. The end.
The BG is from a wall decoration poster, I don't know who the artist is.
This was supposed to be my St Patty's Day post. A little delayed based on an eventful weekend.
Note the arm detail was inspired by Bernie Wrightson who just passed away on March 19th.
Thank you for the inspiration and all the amazing art Bernie, rest in peace.

Batgirl

This version of Batgirl first appear in the Tales of the Legion of Super Heroes number 339 as a tryout.
This is not Barbara Gordon, the regular Batgirl we all know. This is a futuristic version in the 30th Century. I know very little of this character but I thought it was fun to draw and color.
Feel free to comment more details on her if you like for other fans that may not know much about her like myself. It's slightly resembling the Bruce Timm style as a tribute.
Hope you are liking my Legion tryouts, the most ridiculous ones are the best.
Cheers

Arm Fall Off Boy

Arm fall Off Boy is perhaps the most famous Legion reject, most because he is considerer to be one of the most ridiculous characters in comics.
The bg was made by the talented Nils Eckhardt. Modified by myself to match the character better.
Legion rejects are sure fun to draw and funny as well.
I may switch to actually doing some real Legionnaires, whatever is left...
Any suggestions?

Voice

Voice was a prospect member of the Legion of Super Heroes, but was rejected. She has the power to mesmerize only the dull and slow people under a lot of stress.
However after this she and the rest of the group that got rejected with her formed the United Planets Young Heroes. It didn't work out so well.
I don't know the who the BG artist is. I've changed it just a bit.
There are only a few actual Legionnaires to draw left, that's why I'm exploring applicants and rejects.
The whole point is to have fun doing this personal mission to draw every legionnaire that ever existed. Perhaps one day in the not so distant future I'll accomplish my mission.
Until then...Long Live the Legion!
And have a good weekend too...

Turtle

Real name Bogdan Tarka, he was a Legion applicant for membership. Turtle's powers were deemed defensive only and he was deemed not suitable for membership. He along with Night Girl and Sizzle were granted Legion Reserve Status. His powers are invulnerability. I don't know who the BG artist is, otherwise I'll give him the deserved credit for it.
I believe this character dies in the comics. The End...

XS

Granddaughter of barry Allen, aka The Flash. Jenni Ognats carries on the family tradition as the 31st Century speedster, XS.
In Dead Heat, Jenni meets her cousin Bart Allen and other speedsters in the 20th century to take on Savitar. XS appeared in Infinity Crisis and in Final Crisis: Legion of 3 Worlds.
Ironically I did this one very fast and for whatever reason I always enjoy drawing speedsters.

Blue Lantern Saint Walker

When I went comic book shopping today, I saw a cover with this character in it. I thought it was so cool looking, got really inspired and here is my version. Also I like to take a little break from drawing obscure Legion of Superheroes characters from time to time.
Sorry Legion fans, I'll keep them coming soon enough.
Saint Walker is the first recruit to the Blue Lantern Corps, as well as it;s most recognizable.
He was vital in freeing Hal Jordan from the influence of the red Lantern ring, and one of the New Guardians after the Blackest Night.

Infinity Man

The original character was a fragment of the Highfather and a protector of the Forever People from New Genesis. Created by Jack Kirby, the artist who got me into comic books when I was a kid. As a tribute to Kirby I had to somewhat draw it in the Kirby style. I also mixed it up with other versions from the comic books and I borrowed elements from the Young Justice cartoon. I felt like creating something new. The BG it's a Nebula Wallpaper.
However in the Legion universe the character's true name is Jason Rugarth who was a profesor at the Metropolis University's Time Travel Institute. He volunteer for an experiment involving time travel with Ron Vidar. He returned as Infinity Man.

Duplicate Girl

Luornu Durgo is native of Cargg. a planet with three suns, which gives her the ability to split into three identical bodies. As Triplicate Girl she became one of the first members of the Legion. She lost one of her duplicates during battle becoming Duo Damsel. Later on she lost her only double remaining and almost left the Legion. But Luorno recently gained the ability to split into a virtual endless number of bodies and calls herself Duplicate Girl.
The BG is from the talented Tor Frick, I've changed the colors to match Luornu and her duplicates.
I've also based this one on my old version of Triplicate Girl and decided to slightly redesign her outfit.
Hope you like it, hope you like it, hope you like it...

Mandalla

Mandalla was born on Takron-Galtos, the prison planet, because her mother was an inmate. At the age of 14 she left the planet and joined the legion Academy. I think she first apear in a comic in 1987, possibly a Legion Annual.
She can project a thought sphere to engulf her target, causing hallucinatory, distorting effects by interfering with one's bio-electrical system. Mandalla received intense training on how to use her powers.
The BG is from the talented Andead on deviant art.
Since I've done most of my fav Legionnaires, I think from this point it's Legion Academy members and obscure tryout rejects.
Long Live the Legion!

Barber Boy

It is I! Barber Boy!..You have to admit there's a lot of Legion characters that are hilarious.
He is a Legion reject who had a pair of scissors for a right hand and could shoot hair-styling mousse from his eyes. Enough said...
I did my best to come up with an updated version of the classic comic book panel.
The BG is from Andree Walling, or whatever is left of it after I got my hands on it to adapt it to the characters better.
I'm sure Legion fans would get a kick out of this one.
Cheers

Visi-Lad

Real name Rhent Ustin is a four eyed mutant at the Legion Academy. His home world is unknown.
Extensive research into his vision powers was inconclusive, but was determined to be from a mutation rather than any surgical or genetic alteration. His powers include heat vision, hypnotic vision, telescopic vision and microscopic vision. There powers come from using his four eyes in different combinations. Rhent may have more combos and abilities not discovered yet.
He applied to and was accepted into the Legion Academy as Visi-Lad.
I got the BG from Shutterstock and play with it a bit.
Long Live the Legion.

Polecat

Pew...Polecat aka Dafe Meron was horn-like protrusions. The horns emit a highly noxious odor. This occurrence made Meron a social outcast. As polecat, he applied for membership in the The Lagion of Super Heroes in hopes of elevating his popularity. He was rejected on the basis that his power was threat to both allies and enemies alike. BG made by Nicolai Karelin.

Shadow Kid

Real name Grev Mallor cousin or brother of Shadow Lass with the same ability to cast absolute darkness. He is a member of the Legion Academy. Originally from the planet Talok VIII.
Here is my futuristic version where he is wearing a Legion ring and became a member.
For the BG I've cloned a building from Turbosquid and added some clouds behind, as a result a got this. I think it serves it purpose.
Long Live the Legion!

Quislet

Quislet is a member of the Legion of Super Heroes. His alter ego it's unpronounceable. He is a member of a subatomic race of group minded beings from another dimension. Quilt lives in a small vessel capable of movement in space, in planetary atmospheres and between certain types of dimensions. He can emerge from the vessel as an energy like form and possess inanimate solid objets, exerting control over them. Objects that Quislet possesses disintegrate shortly thereafter.
The BG it's a wallpaper galaxy image I've tempered with. Kinda fun airbrushing that metallic look.
I know it's not humanoid but is a Legionnaire after all and I had to take a shot at it in my style.
Long Live the Legion.

Echo

The interesting thing about this drawing is I didn't know Echo was a villain until I was done drawing it. I've researched it afterwords and found out the truth. I have a folder with a whole bunch of Legionnaires reference to complete my mission to draw every Legionnaire ever. I've found echo there and the design seemed interesting to explore. I was under the impression he was a hero. Oh well...
The scoop, the first Echo was a villain who was an enemy of Lee Travis, the Crimson Avenger. He debuted in March 1941 in Detective Comics # 49.
The second Echo (this drawing) debuted in Adventure Comics # 355 in April 1967 as a member of the Legion of Super Villains from the Khundish planet Calish-Aelita.
The post Crisis Echo was an interim member of the Legion of Super Heroes during the five years later storyline.
The BG credits go to Scribblebian for Music Video. I've added some elements to blended all.
Life goes on, until next Legionnaire.

Particon

Particon is a young hero in the 31st Century who can wield and manipulate magenta-colored energy. A former member of Leland McCauley's Workforce. she's now joined the Uncanny Amazers.
I realized from now on it's nothing but obscure characters galore since I've already done the main characters. The BG it's from a Wallpaper HD website.
Even when time it's a luxury I can't afford, I'll do my best to post a legionnaire here and there.
Cheers

Dr. Strange

Dr. Strange opens this weekend and I felt compelled to do some strange art.
Beyond the fact that time it's an illusion, it's also a luxury I can't afford, so I've tried to be economical and re-used an old drawing, flopped it and added new FX to match the latest movie coming out today. You can see that old post in this blog under Dr. Strange vs. Dr. Fate.
I known the character since I was 10 from reading the Dr. Strange Marvel Comics. That was the first time I've heard about an out-of-body experience and mysticism. Later in life I found out it was based in real spirituality and philosophy that became very helpful in general.
I keep hearing so many good things about this film, can't wait to see it tonight.

Harmonia

Harmonia Li is a member of the Legion of Super Heroes, originally from Earth, specifically from China. Her true age is unknown, though she tends to speak of herself as if she is centuries old. At some point in the past, Harmonia's wisdom allowed her to live in a place called Utopia where the wisest and immortal lived. Her elemental powers originated from an unknown source or perhaps she was born with them.
I don't know the name of the background artist, otherwise it would be here. It seemed utopiesque enough for this piece. I've changed it just a tad.
It feels great to draw whatever I like, specially Legionnaires. As much as I am grateful beyond words about my full time job, it limits my free time to draw Legionnaires.
Til next Legion time folks.

Molecular Master

Molecular Master had the ability to resize atoms and molecules. He tried to join the Legion of Super Heroes before it was learned that he was actually a robot sent to steal a machine in the LSH lair.
For the BG I've combined and retouched two backgrounds from Enc Arregado and Joakimolofsson-d5eklyj, visit their deviant art pages.
I wanted to do a tribute to one comic panel featuring the Molecular Master from way back in the day.
I was influenced by the art of Otto Schmidt and Robert Valley for this one.
Hope you Legion fans like it.
Cheers

Shikari

Shikari is a superheroine in the future of the DC Comics universe and a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes. She was created by Dan Abnett, Andy Lanning and Olivier Coipel and first appeared in Legion Lost # 1. Shikari is a member of the Kwai, a nomadic race of humanoid insects who live in the "Second Galaxy". Shikari can find a path to any object or area, if such a path exists. This power can also be used to see through illusions. She also has an armored, retractable exoskeleton, and can remain active indefinitely in a vacuum.
I know it's been a little over a year since I post any Legion fan art, it's been crazy. Way to many personal life situations to deal with. Regardless I wanted to do at least one piece to honor Comic Con.
Thanks to all Legion fans for the fan mail asking me for more, it's encouraging and inspiring.
Cheers

The Legion of Super Heroes

Ta Daaah!
And right on time for Comic Con 2015 ladies and gents may I present to you: "The Legion of Super Heroes Monstruos Group Shot!"
As I mentioned before, Legion fans keep in mind this group shot doesn't actually have a continuity timeline. In fact it doesn't make any sense! I was just adding every single character I've drawn that was Legion related all in one mega poster. There are even Wanderers, Heroes of Lallor, dead characters, Blast Off and Wildfire which are one and the same, 60's and contemporary characters. Sorry for the big enchilada mess!
I'll continue adding characters as I get them done from this point on.
Perhaps one day I'll be done.
Hope you all like it!
Have a great Comic Con if you are planing to attend.
Don't forget to check out my website:

Legion Group Shot Sneak Peek

And why not, I almost never show unfinished work. Here is a sneak peek of my secret long lasting project "The Legion of Super Heroes Monstrous Group Shot!"
Legion fans keep in mind this group shot doesn't actually have a continuity timeline. In fact it doesn't make any sense! I was just adding every single character I've drawn that was Legion related all in one mega poster. There are even Wanderers, Heroes of Lallor, dead characters, 60's and contemporary characters. Sorry for the big enchilada mess!
I'll do my best to add a BG and post the whole thing by Comic Con next week!
Even after that I'll continue adding every character that I'll draw in the future. Perhaps in possibly another year it may actually be fully completed.
Since time doesn't actually exist and the linear concept of time was created by humans to orientate themselves, or at least that's what they think. Just a matter of time and I'll be done one day...
Don't forget to visit my website at:

Hope you like it so far!
Happy 4th everyone!!! :)

Earth Man

Kirk Niedrigh is a semi-reformed super villain  that was coerced into joining the Legion.
Created by Cary Bates and Mike Grell, Niedrigh is a former hopeful for the Legion of Super Heroes under the guise of Absorbency Boy. After being rejected from the team, years later he resurfaced as Earth Man leading a group of super villains called the Justice League of Earth, which help to enforce a xenophobic agenda that Earth has adopted. He first appeared in Superboy and the Legion of Super Heroes # 218 back in 1976. And re-appeared as Earth Man since 2007.
Sorry Legion fans it toke a long time to come up with a Legion related post. I've been ridiculously busy with multiple projects. About to launch my own website, building a UFO art car for Burning Man etc etc...
Besides I think I'm running out of characters, at least the main ones.
Hope you like it, cheers!
And have a Happy 4th btw...

Life Lass

Life Lass was created in the 60's by Edmond Hamilton and John Forte.
Real name Somi Gan. She was born to a couple that had been exposed to the radiation of an atomic accident that destroyed the entire continent of Antillar on their home planet. As a result she was born with the extraordinary ability to animate and control inanimate objects, essentially bringing them to life, taking the name Life Lass. Somi and another super humans joined together to become the Heroes of Lallor. This group often helped the Legion of Superheroes.
The BG is called Urban Lights and was made by Andreas Rocha. I've changed the colors to separate the character figure a little more from the BG.
Since I'm running out of female characters and the majority I have left in my list are male, I'm willing to start drawing other female characters from the Legion universe that aren't necessary Legionnaires.
I'll be challenging with all the projects I have going on, to find free time and continue with my mission of drawing every Legionnaire.

TommyTejeda.com

Today my first official website went public.
After a lifetime of creating art, professionally and for fun I finally found some time of my super-busy schedule to make it happen.
Thanks Michael Malota for being a great web designer, I would highly recommend his services.
It feels good to have most of my decent artwork all together in one site.
It's definitely more professional, official and a good way to showcase your artwork.
Of course I'll continue to post some art in here as well.
Hope you like it, enjoy!

Calorie Queen

Real name Taryn Loy, came from the planet Bismoll, Calorie Queen possesses the same eating abilities as Matter-Eater Lad, as well as super-strenght due to genetic manipulation.
At one point she got to work with Matter-Eater Lad, putting their teenager issues behind. She was recommended as a replacement by Matter-Eater Lad due to his political career. the LSH declined.
The BG is called Sci Fi and was made by Jsek-d4g0p1f, I've changed it a little.
Couldn't help mysel by adding Matter-Eater Lad checking her out.
The Legion mission continues...

Avengers: Age of Ultron

And the final color...
Well, there isn't much left to say since I've already commented on the film on my previous Blog post and facebook.
The team made it's debut in The Avengers # 1 on September 1963.
It was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.
"And there came a day, a day unlike any other, when Earth's mightiest heroes and heroines found themselves united against a common threat. On that day, the Avengers were born."
Hope you like it and hope you enjoy the film as much as I did.

Avengers...assemble!!!

Due to the worldwide success of "Avengers: Age of Ultron", I was inspired to contribute to the excitement with my geeky fan art.
I rarely post unfinished art on this Blog anymore, so there you have it. Just a clean up for now, I've realized I may not be done with the color version by the time the movie opens officially in the US on May 1st. I couldn't wait to share it, even if it's unfinished.
I've seen the film already and really loved it! I'm very glad Marvel is kicking ass with most things they do.
Eventually I'll be done with the color and I'll re post it.
Til' then hope you like it!
Peace out!

Wolf Priestess

Wolf Priestess it's the seventh painting for my gallery. Yes it's a woman.
It was made on a short time notice of ten days for the A-Bun-Dance event on Nov 22nd at the Lure nightclub in Hollywood. Totem animal was the theme, the Hollywood Burner crowd it's my personal favorite!
As usual I've started with a white canvas digitally. I used some photo elements due to the lack of time such as the blanket, some of the wolf hair on the head-dress over the left of the face, the lips and some fur on the bottom right. They are the only retouched photo elements. The rest was painted from scratch digitally with Photoshop CS5. I used photo reference for the woman's face and hands, yes that means I copied it, but it was still painted from zero. I added and painted the pattern on the blanket and other elements to the piece. I did my best to blend it together digitally and smoothly before it was printed on a canvas.
After the canvas was printed I've painted live on it with acrylic to add some final details, extra depth, texture and contrast. There is no room for mistakes with acrylic, you can't click Command + Z to undo, there is no undo LOL.
It was challenging explaining all of this to some annoying drunk people at the event who doesn't even know what a Cintiq is and have no clue about art techniques.
Click on the word Cintiq for a link and a better explanation if you still have no clue what that is.
Sure, I can just say mixed media like a lot of artists prefer to say. There is no need for a detail explanation in the art process. Still, I feel compelled to make it clear I'm not just painting over a photo like some folks believe. Maybe 35% it's a painted over a collage photo, not everything. That itself it's a whole new can of worms in the art community. The more traditional and conventional artists are not cool with the idea of painting over some photo elements. All thou to their criteria it's OK to "copy" a photo as long is all done from zero. There is a lot of controversy about this subject, clearly it doesn't bother me. I only think of Photoshop and the digital era as just another "tool". If I didn't know how to paint period I could never have "created" this piece as I did. Art is creation. Whatever tools and technology are available nowadays to create are just tools and I'm on board with the latest. After drawing and painting my whole life since I was a kid, learning techniques, learn how to have a solid drawing foundation, having a successful career in the animation industry etc etc I don't think I need to prove anything to anyone. In fact I'm doing a whole gallery using this digital / acrylic on canvas mix media. Some day I'll finish all my 12 pieces and I'll let you all know.
Like Robert Downey Jr. said..."listen, simile, agree and then do whatever the fuck you were gonna do anyway."
Hope you like it folks.
Cheers

Playa Dust

My latest painting. Here's where I got so far digitally, I'll be painting what 's left on the printed canvas live at Lure, located at 1439 Ivar Av. Los Angeles CA on Saturday October 25th. The event it's called Deca-Dance Pre-Halloween.
I'm thinking about adding a real bindi to the painting, and with acrylic maybe a little more detail on the body painting, the hair and the rusted BG with sponge.
The idea of this painting it's that the model it's covering her face with a feather from some Playa dust flowing bye at Burning Man. The background could be a rusted mutant vehicle parked there.
I'm sure I'll texturize it once I'm completely done with it.
Painting 6 of 11 almost done.

Arctic Veil

I've started this piece on a canvas 38x46 almost 10 years ago. Left it on pause for a while. I added more detail with acrylic recently, toke a photo of the actual painting, added even more details digitally, printed it again on a canvas when done and finally added some values with acrylic on that new canvas. First time I ever mix a creative process like that. I'm pretty happy with the outcome so far. Sorry for the crappy photo I wish there was a better way to capture that canvas.
I'm still going to add more detail to the arms and veil in the next two days and finish it once and for all, waaay over due...
As usual it was a great pleasure painting live at Grateful Fridays, love and gratitude to that awesome community.
May the force be with you...always

Ying and Yang

Originally posted on 11/29/12 at 7:15 PM.
It seems after both my parents passing this year, all I have been doing it's balancing and harmonizing things in life. It'll take some time to adjust and slowly flow into my new life. Perhaps that's why I have been  seeing the Ying and Yang symbol in my mind and felt compelled to create something like this. I've started digitally then printed on canvas and finally added details with acrylic. This is the digital version only. I don't have any pics of my finished canvas work yet.
Yin and Yang is one of the most fundamental concepts in Traditional Chinese Medicine, as it is the foundation of diagnosis and treatment. The earliest reference to Yin and Yang is in the I Ching (Book of Changes) in approximately in 700 BC. In this work, all phenomena are said to be reduced to Yin-Yang.

Tree Spirit

After taking a two year break from painting digitally and on canvas, I've decided to slowly get back into it. It seems overcoming the passing of both my parents was a time consuming process that still goes on. My dad's death second anniversary was a few days ago. During this break period from creating art I had to travel to Argentina many times, that's where my whole family lived, I had to multitask and accomplish many things. In January this year I was told I needed a heart surgery by my physician for my mitral valve prolapse case. I'm still doing echocardiograms and getting other opinions about it. I was also betrayed by my attorney in Argentina who I've trusted after 20 years. She ended up committing fraud and extortion, stealing a whole bunch of money from a family property I've sold last year. I'm still dealing with that too, most definitively I will seek justice in a corrupted bureaucratic third world society. After my mom's passing I've also inherited the responsibility of taking care of her sister in Argentina (my aunt), who had a brain aneurysm, it's been paralyzed and lost her speech since late 2009. She didn't have any children and it's my only family member left alive. Very expensive monthly medical bills out of my pocket. I've also been facing some challenging and difficult times in my recent relationship, like I didn't have enough going on, to the point that I'm single again. On a positive note I've spent at least 11 months drawing and painting my own version of DC comics The  Legion of Super Heroes characters for fun, it seemed to have a good feedback from the Legion fans. Scroll down and click on "older posts" at the bottom of this page to see them all. I got involved on a time consuming unpaid freelance job, a good reminder why I've stopped doing unpaid work a long time ago. I've quit that job recently, I'll share that art at one point.
Having said all of that I hope you'll understand why I had to take a break, I was blocked and overwhelmed on my creative flow by multiple and difficult life situations.

This particular painting was inspired by an experience I had when connecting my third eye to a big tree. With my physical eyes closed and my third eye open I saw the shapes and image of the painting above flying in front of me. I added the leaf hair details, the actual visual experience I had was semi blurry.
I'll be painting this image live on canvas at the ABunDance event on May 31st in Hollywood.

If you are reading this, you are invited.
I will slowly do my best to start producing more Legion of Super Heroes characters and paintings as well, please be patience with my creative speed, I'm still multitasking difficult life situations. Nevertheless my art will be posted here sooner or later, life and art will go on...always...
Cheers

11/11/11...(read a la Christopher Walken)...WOW!
After an amazing day and a blissful Hindu Hybrid wedding I went to Grateful Fridays and finish my painting :)
It was awesome to actually paint and dance under the rain, ha...it sounds like a cheese 80's song title...paint and dance under the rain...
I'm a so grateful my computer, projector and Cintiq are dry now and they still work fine. And also very grateful for the chance to share my work with you all. I love everyone at Grateful Fridays.
It feels like 11/11/11 went bye too fast. I've been waiting for that magical date for too long, had too much planned and went bye too quick.
I hope whatever meaning that date has for you somewhat lived up to your expectations.
Yes, you are the future and the future it's now...
Cheers for a better humanity living in harmony with nature and the cosmos!!!

Love and Light.
