Iron Man

I don't know about you, but this is how Ironman looked when I saw it for the first time.
I think Marvel gave him this armor for a long time. It's a classic to me.
What did you think of the Movie? How you like them apples uh?
For those comic book Illiterates...Tony Stark, after being gravely injured and forced to build a devastating weapon, instead created a suit of power armor to save his life and help protect the world as Iron Man. He is a wealthy industrialist and genius inventor whose metal suit is laden with technological devices that enable him to fight.

HULK

Since I never got a chance to work on the Teen Titans cartoon because of my full time position with Justice League or never got to draw certain Marvel characters, I really got into drawing the Hulk in the Titans style when I heard Marvel was going to do a new cartoon about it. I came up with 12 different designs of super heroes and villains over this past week-end, including two versions of Dr. Strange and the Black Panther. Here is my first pass at the Hulk just for fun. I'll post the others eventually.
BTW this is my 100 th post, good times!

Update (7/4/08') I heard the new Hulk cartoon got cancelled because of the poor sales with the toys after the latest theatrical release. It really sucks that a bunch of stiff ass toy executives decides what to do in the animation industry, it should be the other way around. The lack of talent and vision of certain people in this industry really bothers me. It's not all about the Benjamins, how about true art and real talent.

She Hulk

She-Hulk has been a member of the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, Heroes For Hire, Defenders, Fantastic Force, and S.H.I.E.L.D. A highly skilled lawyer, she has served as legal counsel to various superheroes on numerous occasions. Her cousin is Bruce Banner, better known as The Incredible Hulk.
Maybe because of the new Hulk movie coming out I just feel like drawing Hulk characters.

Jafar Genie

I'm an All Powerful Genie that Controls the Power of the Universe...
or something like that, isn't that what Jafar said when he turned into a genie?

The Joker T-Shirt

I remember I specially made this t-shirt to wear at the opening night of Batman in 1989.
I based it in a Jim Aparo's comic book panel.

G&R

After I heard that album for the first time in 1986 I became an instant fan and of course I had to paint my own t-shirt with it.
This t-shirt was ridiculously hard to scan and put together. I just couldn't get those wrinkles to go away. Sorry if it looks a little distorted.
Not too bad for an 18 years old punk.

Metallica T-Shirt

On the next few posts you'll find some t-shirts I painted by hand when I was 19 years old.
I kept the ones with the most sentimental value to me, and here they are.
It was extremely difficult to scan them for this blog, since they were very wrinkle, old and didn't fit on my scanner.
I had to place a sheet of cardboard inside each t-shirt and scan them in two halves (bottom and top).
To make them I used a special paint for fabrics called Ladytex made only in Argentina back in the 80's.
It was a very good paint brand, since I wore them and washed them many times. The fact that they still look good proves it.
About this particular piece I remember seeing a japanese Kerrang magazine with a Metallica note in it. And in one page I saw
a photograph of a fan giving James Hetfield a caricature drawing of him Manga style.
For some reason when I was 19 I thought it was the coolest thing in the world, specially because I was a huge Metallica fan myself. And then it hit me, I though it would be really cool to make a t-shirt out of that tiny photo.
It was very challenging to come up with the design since that pic was ridiculously small, but I did it. I can't believe I painted the logo straight up with no art line, I even knew how to do that logo by heart without any reference.
I never got so many compliments on a t-shirt, specially around Metallica's golden age.

Earth. Wind. Fire and Ice

From "Kid Stuff" written and directed by my friends Henry Gilroy and Joaquim Dos Santos. When Mordred banishes all adults into Limbo, Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern must make a deal with his mother Morgaine to transform into 8-year-olds in a desperate attempt to defeat the boy-wizard. Here are some of the foes Mordred creates to fight the Justice League.

Kalanor Rider

From Despero's World. Despero was the first villain to face the Justice League in their initial ongoing series, debuting in 1960’s Justice League Of America #1 as the despotic ruler of Kalanor. 

“Hearts And Minds” is a loose adaptation of that story.

Zok

Based on a Mike Mignola's rough from the Herculoid Zok,
I redesign him to become a demon for a Justice League episode.
Zok, (voiced by Mike Road), a flying dragon. He emits laser beams from his eyes and tail. His eyes also produced a "nega-beam" that could neutralize certain energy attacks. Zok could survive in space unaided, was capable of interstellar travel, and could breathe fire.

Steve Austin

Steve Austin, not the wrestler but the original Six Million Dollar Man from the 1974 TV show.
I got to cast him on a Justice League episode as an astronaut.

Space Creature

Giant space creature for Brainiac Attacks. I wish I knew the writing was going to be so horrible. I heard they decided to use a script that was submitted as a tryout for the Superman TV series and got rejected. Jezz I wonder why? From the script to using different actors for the voices, don't get me going please...
Regardless of my brutal honest professional opinion it was nice working on another Superman story after all.

Recoleta Statues

I was asked to design some statues for a background in a Justice League episode featuring Vandal Savage.

I based the designs from real statues at the Recoleta Cemetery in Buenos Aires Argentina.

And Vandal Savage for those who doesn't know him... in prehistoric times, a meteorite struck near two cro-magnon tribesmen, Klarn and Vandar Adg (Vandal Savage), bathing them in radiation. Vandal became immortal, free to exercise his dark desires for an eternity, while Klarn was to be reincarnated over and over to fight evil as the Immortal Man (not to be confused with Resurrection Man).

Metamorpho

An old Marine friend of John Stewart, Rex Mason finds himself turned into a freaky looking guy named Metamorpho with powers to change his very molecular structure. Rex's boss and future father-in-law is the bad guy responsible for his metamorphosis. Metamorpho aids the Justice League in the end against a giant monster that even Superman can't handle alone.

Jor-El and Lara

Superman's kryptonian folks Jor-El and Lara for the Animated Superman TV show.

Horse Zombi

Who knew I was going to design a horse zombi in my career for a Wonder Woman episode.

Doomsday

The story starts out with Superman and the other members of the Justice League storming the White House where Superman uses deadly force to defeat the President of the United States - Lex Luthor using his heat vision. This is shown later in the story to be an alternate world. A world where the League goes down the wrong path in part because of the death of the Flash.
The real League is tricked into coming into this alternate world by the alternate Justice Lords. They are captured, while the Justice Lords turn to the Justice League's Earth to rule it. Doomsday makes an appearance fighting the Justice Lords to a standstill. Awesome fight scenes here. The only gripe I have is when the alternate Hawk Girl get's uppercut by Doomsday hundreds of feet into the air that should have been all she wrote, but instead she's right back on her feet in the next scene. Hawk Girl is seen as way to powerful in some episodes and this one was definitely an example. The only power she really has is wings and a magic mace. Since when can she take a punch from Doomsday? Besides this discrepancy, the scenes of the alternate Superman fighting Doomsday are awesome. One scene has them hitting each other at the same time causing a shock wave that destroys windows in a nearby skyscraper and almost knocks a helicopter for a loop. Now that's worthy of a movie scene. Almost defeated the alternate Superman uses his heat vision to lobotomize Doomsday.
I like this episode better than the latest Doomsday dvd released by WB.

Brainiac

Always kind of cool messing up Brainiac, that soulless bastard.
I don't even remember for what episode was this for. I have done so much work for WB over the past decade that sometimes things blur out...

Cat Captain

Here is the Captain from the Cat People spaceship.

I'm not sure but I think this is from an episode where Green Lantern is on trial in an outerspace court for the destruction of an entire world. Worse John Stewart the Lantern thinks he is guilty. While the Flash tries to play lawyer and defend him the rest of the League investigate. This episode features the Manhunters, the Green Lantern Corp, Guardians of the Universe and the Cat People (alien race made up for the beginning of this episode).

Alien Dog

Batman and Superman discover alien invaders and find out they need the help of others.
Here is one of the aliens.

Hawkgirl

I never liked what the producers did with Hawkgirl in the JLU cartoon universe.
The whole love affair thing with GL was kind of unnecessary, besides it didn't have anything to do with the comics. And what about Hawkman?
If you ask me, I think whoever was responsible for that worked themselves into a dead end with those two episodes about Carter Hall, trying to make sense out of their own creation. Sometimes the whole "alternative" or "parallel" universe thing could be an easy way out from being faithful to the original comic book, and perhaps fans like myself may have a more difficult time liking it.
I even started to dislike the character after what they did with it. I was very happy to design a model of Hawkgirl being electrocuted for an episode.

Predator

My first Predator rough. I would like to paint this piece some day when I can afford the luxury of time. I based this drawing on a comic book by Chris Warner & the new AVP designs.

The New Frontier

Martian Man Hunter it's always a fun character to work with, specially with that unusual look Darwyn gave him.
Probably one of the best things I have ever worked for. I was fortunate enough to do some character design freelance for it.
I got to work on Hal Jordan and the Martian Man Hunter between many others.
